In the weekends, January 16 to 18 and January 23 to 24, DACC rolled out the red carpet for the Danish Film Festival Atlanta 2009 at the High Museum of Art. The five days celebrating Danish film presented a diverse line-up, covering a range of genres – a thriller, two comedies, a documentary and a children’s animated feature.

It is an early tradition that the Festival always includes a film for the children, and this year was no exception. As always the children's Sunday was a great success and it was a pleasure to see the kids enjoy the film and the free goodie bags, and try to decide which of the six kinds of free stuffed animals to bring home.

The Festival is one of DACC's more large- and up-scale events, and it has seen a steady increase in guests since it first started four years ago. This year, close to 2000 newcomers and returning film goers joined us to watch the Danish films, and generally the audience seemed impressed with the quality and entertainment/educational value of the Danish films. Especially Saturday night's showing, the Danish comedy "With Your Permission" received great feedback.

The film was directed by Danish Actress and Director Paprika Steen, who honored us with a visit here in Atlanta. She attended the showing of her film, and after wards she was ready to answer questions from the audience. With her permission, the audience fired away, and Paprika sincereley, honestly and somewhat bluntly answered the many questions about the message in the film, its production, her thoughts on love, on her career going from actress to director, and also the role of women in Denmark compared to the US.

Prior to the showing of the film, Paprika had attended a Cocktail Reception, hosted by DACC in her honor at the Four Seasons Hotel. Here, 40 guests got the chance to meet the actress up close, pay visits to the free cocktail bar, and mingle while enjoying delicious hors d'oeuvres catered by the Four Seasons. Guests included the Honorary Consul of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Dr. Bruce Allen and Wife Dr. Jennifer Allen; the Honorary Consul of the Kingdon of Denmark, Christopher Smith and wife Lyubena Smith; as well as top representatives from the many sponsors of the Film Festival. Also our Friends of the Festival had turned up in great numbers. We would like to, once again, give out a special thank you for all the support from our sponsors and friends. Without them this Danish Film Festival, sharing a part of the Danish cultural treasure with the world, would not be able to happen.
