On Friday April 16th our dear Queen Margrethe celebrated her 70th Birthday and we used this great opportunity to gather our members and friends to an excellent event hosted by our new Silver Sponsor MAILEG North America http://www.maileg.com in their new location in Roswell.

Over 50 guests came out to meet our new addition to the Danish community: Hanne & Lars Andersen and hear more about the exciting story about the Maileg universe. In brief the Andersen couple explained how the American adventure began in Herning over a glass of red wine and how Maileg North America is rapidly growing and aiming to become the largest market in the Maileg group of worldwide distributors.

Since established in 1999 Maileg have developed to an international organization with its contemporary interior and lifestyle concept and the collection has a authentic and unique expression created by the designer Dorthe Mailil.  It was exciting to learn how many times Dorthe Mailil had been recognized with both Danish and international design awards. Further Dorthe’s design has been represented on Louvre in Paris, Caixa Forum in Barcelona and Musaum of Modern Art in New York. At the DACC we are proud to welcome Maileg North America.

Our honorary consul Christopher Smith also joined the party in celebrating the queen and the evening was a relaxing and enjoyable event with delicious food and beverages. And to make the evening even more festive our Danish Delight Bakery http://www.danishdelightbakery.com/ sponsored real ‘kransekage’ for the champagne toast to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday. Following the tradition from last year we made a birthday card for the Queen with signature from each participant (almost). This year we used a poster from Maileg with one of their signature items ‘The Princess and the Pea’ – and what would be more appropriate for this special occasion.

In connection with the Queen’s Birthday you are able to watch a wonderful collection of high class entertainment organized to celebrate the Queen. You can find the different artists honoring our Queen on YouTube, and if you search “Dronning Magrethe's 70Års Fødselsdag - Musik Gennem 70 År” you will find a great selection of clips with Sir Cliff Richard, De Nattergade, Oerkenens Soenner just to name a few iconic artists celebrating our Queen.

The Maileg collection is obviously ‘must-have’ decoration items for spring as well as Christmas and Hanne & Lars had organized tables with items for the guests to purchase and let’s just say this initiative was greatly welcomed by the audience (in particular the females). Obviously the kids enjoyed the large selection of cute bunnies and pixies as well.
