Yet another Fastelavn has passed.

DACC hosted again this year the event in Jones Bridge Park. Luckily the weather turned out very nice, sunny with a little chill, but no rain nor snow.

We ended up with approximately 20 kids of all ages dressed out + 30 adults, all taking part in the Danish tradition of decorating the “fastelavn ris,” creating Danish maracas noise makers and label the goodie bag for candy . After hanging the black cats, lollipops and feathers on the branches it was time for the “fastelavns” song with plenty of noise, which was very well performed by the kids.

Then IT WAS FINALLY TIME for beating down the original Fastelavn barrels imported from Denmark.

We had one barrel for the toddler group and one wooden barrel for the older kids group. The kids were excited and everybody took the hitting very serious.

All were convinced that exactly this hit on the barrel would be the one that would bring it down and the huge amount of candy would cover the ground.
Both barrels finally gave in after hard effort and plenty of suggestions from all the kids and just a little help from Anne to loosen it a bit. Danish Design at its best.

After filling up the goodie back all went back in to warm up with coffee, Fastelavn boller and crowning the cat king and queens of 2010.  I’m sure everybody went home that day with more than enough candy and fastelavnsboller in the bag and belly to last for at least a week - Yummi!
We thank Danish Delight for sponsoring the delicious Fastelavnsboller, DACC for rental of the cabin and DSVS for transportation of the Fastelavns barrels all the way from Denmark.

Tusinde Tak.
