Danish School 2007/2008

Improve Your Danish While Learning More About Danish Culture And History

The Danish School successfully started the new school year on Sunday, September the 9, 2007 at the DACC office in Roswell.

The interest in learning Danish has increased since last school year, and surprisingly many people showed up on the first day. In fact the school has expanded from 10 to 35 students and is now offering classes for adults, teenagers and children. The school is run on a voluntarily basis by Jette Binder, Bettina Vestesen, Katrine Rubenstein and the DACC interns Kasper and Julie.

It is great to see that so many people care for the Danish language. Our students vary from having a Danish parent to students that have ancestors who immigrated to the US many, many years ago. We even have to students coming all the way from Jacksonville, Florida.

Introduction to Teachers of the Danish School

Jette Juel Binder

My name is Jette Juel Binder and I'm 39 years old. I have been here in the States for about one month.
My husband and I are working for Hydrema, a Danish company with headquarters in Støvring, North Jutland, Denmark. We are going to start up an office over here and see where that will bring us.
We have previously lived here for about 1 1/2 year from 2002 in Chamblee, Atlanta, so we know the area and language.
My background is computer science, not hardware and programming, but human computer interaction and so on. I used to work in a company that developed software for the newspaper industry and here I was setting up systems for demonstration. So that has brought me around the world.
Now I
'm a mom and cannot/will not travel so much anymore. That is now my husband's job.
Our son's name is Lukas and he is two years old.
We love it here and I'm looking forward to start teaching Danish.

Bettina Vestesen
My name is Bettina Vestesen and I'm 40 years old. I have lived in Atlanta since July 2005. I'm married to Kim and have a daughter Ida who's 5 years old.
I have an education as a teacher and worked for more than 10 years in a Pre K. After having my daughter I worked as a teacher in a kindergarten for 3 years and parallel with that as a 1st grade teacher in Danish.
I'm looking forward to teach again, and spending time with children is just what I love!

What Do You Get?
The students will receive training in oral Danish as well as written. Among other things, we will read a Danish textbook, do exercises and occasionally watch DVDs to discuss in class. The materials used in class will be textbooks, worksheets etc. designed for “Folkeskolen” and my own books, DVDs and CDs. Also games will be an important part of the classes.

The purpose of the class is to increase and maintain the students’ knowledge of Danish language and culture. We will incorporate as many Danish customs and celebrations as possible, and learn a little about Danish history as we go along.

When Will It Take Place?
For the classes, we will meet every other week, scheduled Sundays 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the DACC, 1200 Northmeadow Parkway, Suite 180, Roswell, GA 30076.
Please note that preparation time at home may be required to receive full benefit from the lessons.

How Much Will It Cost?
A registration fee of $100 for the whole school year must be paid to cover school books etc. shipped from Denmark. Additionally, $10 per child per class must be paid to the teacher to cover time spent preparing and performing the lessons and correcting the students’ work. If you want to pay with credit card please call the DACC office at phone: 770-569-8859. If you prefer to pay with check please send it to:
